VS2003 SP1: forever... and now broken -- visual studio .net setup

One hour for SP1 to install...

.... and now when I try to launch VS2003, a Windows Installer window appears,
and after a few minutes of intense computation, evrything close.

I cannot use VS2003 anymore.

Looks like we are in the same boat. I installed SP1 and now whenever I try
to create a new project I get an error "Automation Server Can't Create
Object"..!!!

Of course, there is no application logging of any kind...just this somewhat
generic error message. I have repaired VS2003...still didnt work... I
deleted and reinstalled VS2003...and still does not work...

What could cause this? [Perhaps it is not related to the SP1?]

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I first tried to reinstall the SP1, but nothing changed.

I then tried to repair VS2003 installation, but the installer told me that
the installation has been tampered (by the SP1 probably...) and that it could
not repair it.

So I uninstalled and the re-installed VS2003, and then applied the SP1, and
now everything works.
