visual studio .net setup: I'm having no luck getting Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition SP 1
to run on my Windows 2003 Server.

I've already tried the fix specified in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925336

This had no effect on my problem, I've tried this a dozen times (all
day yesterday) tweaking all sorts of settings, and still no matter what
i do i get the error:

Error 1718.File C:\WINDOWS\Installer\3c7dad.msp did not pass the
digital signature check. For more information about a possible
resolution for this problem, see
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=73863.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Got it to work!

It took me a day and a half of trial and error, but here's what did it
for me:

My problem was that my win 2003 was disconnected from the domain
server. The fix detailed here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925336
wasn't taking effect b/c my server couldn't connect to the domain. Of
course, there's no warning or anything like that, so it took me quite a
while to figure this out.

Once I VPN'd into my domain and did a gpupdate, I think the setting
finally took effect. But not before I rebooted.

Once I rebooted the install went through.

Hope this saves someone a day or so of frustration.

I had a similar problem. I was applying the steps listed in this KB
article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925336 to my local machine,
but was still unable to install. I dis-joined my machine from our
corporate domain and logged into my machine as local Administrator.
Then I was able install Visual Studio 2005 SP1 successfully. Then I
re-joined my machine back onto our corporate domain.
