After the upgrade of Network drive: whats become of my VS settings? Olumide

visual studio .net setup:
So the techies decided its time to upgrade our network drive/portal
thingy and after which, I crank up Visual Studio .NET 2003 only to be
asked to migrate my Visual Studio .NET 2002 settings as though I'd
just installed VS .NET 2003 (by the way, I never had VS .NET 2002
installed -- don't even know if it existed).

Now my carefully tweaked settings, libraries, dlls, paths, etc are
gone :( -- I'm sure they are alive somewhere in the drive, but Visual
Studio can't find the files from which its supposed to load my
settings.

How and where do I start the restoration? It will take days to
reconfigure my settings, and I don't want to try. If it helps, I have
the following directories:

On network drive:
H:\Profile\Application Data\Microsoft\VisualStudio -- contains
directories: "7.0", "7.1", and "Recent".

On local drive:
C:\Documents and Settings\my_name.newportal\Application Data\Microsoft
\VisualStudio
C:\Documents and Settings\my_name.oldportal\Application Data\Microsoft
\VisualStudio

both contain a directory "7.0"

Thanks,

- Olumide

Visual Studio Settings are stored in a .vssettings file that is usually
found in the User Documents folder for the user that is running Visual
Studio. The folder under "My Documents" is "Visual Studio\Settings"

Restoring Visual Studio .NET 2003 config files Olumide

Would someone please tell me where (which directory) Visual
studio .NET 2003 configuration files are stored and also what they
look like. Is it just one file or a directory? I'm trying to restore
my installation. I'm sure (or should I say hope) the config files are
somewhere on my system.

All I'd like to restore are my library, source, include paths.

You're right. I'm asking about VS2003. Furthermore, I cant find
a .vssettings file in my User documents folder.

Hi Rory,

No, you didn't miss something; I did. My bad, I didn't see the reference to
VS 2003 in the original message. Although I have VS.Net 2003 installed on
this machine, I don't see where the settings are kept, and I no longer have
any documentation for it. I did check both the My Documents folder and the
Local Settings folder in the user account folder (under Documents and
Settings). I suspect that the settings may be in the System Registry, but
that's a guess.
