I am running Vista and have installed Visual Studio Professional.
I have also installed SP1 update for Vista

When looking up things in the MSDN Library that came with Visual Studio I
receive the following error:
=====================
Internet Explorer Script Error
--------------------------------
/!\ An Error has occurred in the scrypt on this page.
Line: 6
Char: 7
Error: Library not registered.
Code: 0
URL: ms-
help://MS.VSCC.v80/MS.MSDN.v80/MS.NETDEVFX.v20.en
/cpref4html/T_System_ConfigurationValidatorA

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
[Yes][No]

What is the cause and what is the solution to this?

Hi Dbuchanan,

From your description, you're encountering the following error when try
viewing the help document installed with VS 2005, correct?

============================
Internet Explorer Script Error
--------------------------------
/!\ An Error has occurred in the scrypt on this page.
Line: 6
Char: 7
Error: Library not registered.
Code: 0
.........
=================

As for the help document, is it the MSDN library you've separately
installed or the one installed together wtih VS 2005? Would you encounter
the same error if try viewing any other help documents(chm or html based)?
Based on my experience, such problem is likely due to the script engine or
the document explorer component has been corrupted or not installed well.
For many document that will be viewed with explorer(IE or customized
explorer), it will require the script engine(script host component) on the
machine. And for VS 2005 help document, it has used a Document Explorer
component which is installed when vs 2005 get installed. Therefore, I
suggest you try the following means to see whether it can help resolve the
issue:

** In the "Control Panel--->Add/Remove Programs", locate the "Microsoft
Document Explorer 2005" entry and repair it

** You can also download and install the latest windows script host
component:

#Windows Script 5.7 for Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=47809025-d896-482e-
a0d6-524e7e844d81&DisplayLang=en

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Steven Cheng
