visual studio .net setup : VS2005 Full Install Hangs on SQL Express Installation

I have NOT installed any of the VS2005 beta releases. At the end of the RTM
version of the VS2005 installation, I begin watching the CPU performance.
There is some activity at the start of the SQL Express portion of the
installation for the first 3-4 minutes - then nothing for the next 15. Last
message on the VS installation dialog is "Current component is installing"

If I click the Cancel button, the resulting message is "Would you like to
cancel setup? If you choose yes, setup will finish installing the current
component and then quit." I click Yes. The response is "Setup will be
cancelled after the installation of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
x86 is completed." I wait another 30 minutes or so then reboot the PC.

This is on WinXP, dual Xeon(TM) CPU 2.40GHz w/2GB of RAM.

How do I solve this problem?

I had the same problem, but saw someplace that uninstalling Norton Internet
Security woulde fix it, so I did and all went fine. I also let it install to
drive C:, the rest was installed to drive E:, not sure if that is related.

I had the same problem. Instead of uninstalling Norton Internet Security I
just disabled it, and for good measure I disabled my AntiVirus auto protect
too.

I was able to get past the hung state by simply pulling my network connection. This seemed to allow it to complete, without disabling the antivirus.
