inetserver iis : IIS5: ASP not served / COM+: reinstall fails

Hi there

This is really a very strange issue: after installing SP4,=20
my IIS5 (WIN2k Server) does no longer handle ASP files.=20
Actually, it shows this 500 error as soon as you ask for=20
any ASP file (even if it does not exist).

System Event Log entry as follows:
------------------------------------------
Source: W3SVC=20
Event ID: 36
The server failed to load application '/LM/W3SVC/3/Root'. =20
The error was 'No such interface supported
------------------------------------------

Meanwhile I learned a lot in newsgroups and knowledge base=20
articles. One of the most promising propositions to help=20
solve my issue seems to be a reinstall of COM+. Because my=20
Component Services do not work either. When I try to open=20
the "Computers" folder in the Component Services MMC then=20
a "class not registered" error appears.

And I had one of those "~clbcatq.dll" files in my system32-
folder. Which indicates a bad install of COM+. I tried=20
very hard: safe mode, deletion of WINNT\Registration=20
folder, deletion of COM3 registry key, deletion of the=20
~clbcatq.dll, renaming the clbcatq.dll and all together as=20
suggested in KB articles.

BUT everytime when I try to reinstall COM+ trough=20
the "Add/Remove Windows Components" dialogue, the same=20
error (MsgBox) is shown when the screen says "Install=20
COM+...". But continues with rest.

Thats the message:
--------------------------------------------
COM+ Setup Error

Sub-component COM+ raised an exception while processing=20
the OC_COMPLETE_INSTALLATION setup message.=20
...\csetuputil.cpp (line 3419)=20
Error Code =3D 0x8007007e=20

The specified module could not be found.
Failed to load the library 'C:\WINNT\system32\DComExt.dll'.
---------------------------------------------

Any ideas what to do now?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE

IIS is completely reliant upon COM+. Try repairing by following this:

add/remove software
windows componenets
-now, without selecting or deselecting any windows components, click next and go through the wizard by either clicking next or OK,
whatever the prompt may be, and then at the end, finish.
reboot

Check to see if com+ has been repaired.

Thank you. I hope this information is helpful.
