I just installed IIS that came on the XP Pro disc and am
trying to get it working, when I try to open http://localhost/localstart.asp
I get a 500 Internal server error and I'm not sure why. I can't seem to find
anything within the knowledge base of Microsoft's site to help. I'm not sure
what else I should post to help so if there are questions that I can answer

Hello,

Please disable "Show Friendly HTTP Errors" in your browser, so you get the
complete error message.

This KB Article explains how to troubleshoot 500 errors, and it also
includes some information about problems regarding localstart.asp:

Hello,
Like Kristofer suggested, turn off friendly http error messages in IE and
see what the error is. Am pretty sure the issue you are running into is the
one documented in http://support.microsoft.com/?id=251361

Good luck,
