I have an existing SSL certificate installed to a web site on IIS 6.0. I
would like to replace that existing SSL certificate with a new one
specifiying a new FQDN on the same web site. Is there anyway to generate the
new CSR without having to remove the current certificate or can I at least
restore the old certificate after I generate the CSR for the new certificate.
I do not want to leave the web site with no SSL while waiting for the new

Generally in this case I would create a blank dummy site in IIS and generate
the new CSR on that site. Once the certificate is issued install it on that
site. After it is installed you can remove the one from the current live
site and then assisgn the newly installed certificate to the intended site.
Also be sure to backup your certificate and mark the private key as
exportable, this will save you much hassle if there is ever a system
failure.

Hi,

As long as you do not confirm the certificate by reading a new one,
generating a CSR does not replace it.

Cheers,
