inetserver iis : Intermittent HTTP Status code 400 and Page cannot be displayed

We have a web application running on a Windows 2000 server with IIS 5.0. It
is communicating to SQL Server running Windows 2003 and SQL Server 2000. We
have some web site users complaining about intermittent Page cannot be
displayed errors. Sometimes they try again and everything executes as
expected. Sometimes not (page cannot be displayed persists). Sometimes they
say it takes a long time before they get this page. When we look in the IIS
log file, we see http status code 400 being reported at the same time of the
complaints. We cannot duplicate this behaviour ourselves from within our
company. So we are stumped. What can we look at, or what additional data
can we collect (and how) in order to determine the cause of this problem?
Thanks,
Andres Montenegro

HTTP 400 means that the browser is sensing bad request to IIS.

Disable "show friendly http errors" in user's Internet Explorer. This will
show some information about the error.

We cannot get the error to happen when we try it. And we really have no way
to contact our users (the public) and ask them to do this. Also, the error

Excuse my inexperience (this is my first time to post a question in a
newsgroup), but I thought I read that this is a Microsoft managed newsgroup
and that an expert from MS will respond within 2 days. Am I wrong? If not,
where are you?
Thanks,

Hmmm....

Here's what it says on the MSDN Managed Newsgroups home page:

"MSDN now includes newsgroup support for select technologies for all MSDN
Universal, Enterprise, Professional and Operating System Subscribers. MSDN
Subscribers can post .NET product and technology questions to the newsgroup
community and get an answer from the newsgroup community or a Microsoft
support professional within 2 business days. Managed newsgroup support is
currently available for more than 200 English newsgroups related to .NET
technologies. More managed newsgroups are continually being added to our
list. For example, MSDN Subscribers can now receive newsgroup support for IIS
security, Office development and device driver development. For more
information, visit MSDN Subscriptions support. Not an MSDN Subscriber? Learn
how to buy. To access all of the managed newsgroups available to MSDN

This a public newsgroup that is hosted by MS but is not an official support
channel.
Some of the MS guys do hang out here but it doesn't appear they have a remit
to respond at all let alone within 2 days. :)

Well I don't know what MSDN Managed Newsgroups are or whether this is it.

I'm not sure how MSDN subscribers are distinguished from non-subscribers so
that they would receive this preferential treatment. Can't say I've
witnessed this here either with my face pressed up to window so to speak
looking in on the privledged.

This is a public place and most help here comes from voluntary efforts.

Any whoo... have you looked at this:-

Hello, I have the same problem with a client. How did you fix it? The user is getting this "Page cannot be displayed" sometimes when she is using the web page. I don't know what could be causing this behaviour
