coldfusion flash integration : Flash remoting kills IIS?

Here's a weird one... I'm running CFMX 7, developer edition, on an XP Pro
laptop. I'm learning Flash Remoting from the "Flash MX 2004 Pro for Server
Geeks" book, and I'm using Flash MX 2004 Pro ver 7.2.

Almost without fail, the first remoting call I make to my IIS 5.1-based CF
install returns the proper value, then it kills IIS. By "kill IIS" I mean IIS
Admin, Web Publishing, and Simple SMTP services are killed. The Windows Event
Viewer/System says they have "stopped unexpectedly". I can restart IIS, try
another call to remoting, and it will do the same thing. NOW it's doing it with
Web service calls from Flash, too. Regular CF pages being served don't seem to
cause the problem.

Admittedly, I had a helluva time getting CFMX to see IIS 5.1. I had to
manually configure based on Macromedia notes. So, I'm wondering:
1. Anyone else ever see this?
2. Any ideas as to what would cause it?
3. Is my CF install hosed, should I reinstall for the umpteenth time? or
should I install Apache and see how that works?

Wow, that's weird... can I upgrade IIS? I thought you IIS 6 only came with
Windows 2003 Server?

In any case, I re-did the manual configuration and so far it hasn't died
prematurely again... maybe something had gone bad.
