flash (macromedia):
How can I get artwork built in Illustrator into FlashMX without having extra nodes being added to the vector shapes?

I have optimized the source artwork by hand in Illustrator, but when I either export it to a .swf, or import the .ai file within Flash, I get additional nodes added to the shapes. Any help or explanation would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

Steve

Someone may have to correct me on this, but I think there's a difference in the order of curves between Flash and Illustrator. I believe that Flash uses quadratic splines, while Illustrator uses cubic splines. If so, it takes more control points with quadratic splines to create a close approximation of a particular cubic spline. Flash appears to temporarily treat any individual curve as a cubic spline when you use the "subselection" tool, but it seems to convert back to to a sequence of quadratics once you've completed editing it.

To see this, create a horizontal straight line, and drag the center up a little to make it a curve. Then use the subselection tool (the white arrow) to select the endpoints and drag the control handles to make an S-curve like you would in Illustrator. It's still a cubic at this point. Now select and drag the line a little bit using the normal arrow. Now select it again with subselection arrow, and you'll see a lot more control points.

Try one of these:
Exporting it as Illustrator V.6 or 7
Export it as .swf, then import it to the Library, and from there drag and drop to the stage.

I usually do the second one and it comes in perfect, I use Illustrator 10 and Flash MX.
