flash (macromedia):
Often I receive the message you need Macromedia Flash Player, I click on the Install now, at the macromedia download center, and the only result is the blank box with the triangle, circle and square in the upper left hand corner. The paragraph below the empty box is: "When you see the installation completion movie above and text below, your installation was successful.".... I never see the installation completion movie. I have Norton security and am running Windows XP, and Explorer 6.0. I have reviewed (to the best of my knowledge) all ActiveX controls, restrictions etc and cannot find nor understand why the Macromedia. I would be most appreciative if someone could offer a solution to this. [quoted text, click to view] did you try to remove entire macromedia player , shockwave and flash and reinstall all from beginning ? ALl windows keep them in System or system32 in folder call MACROMED. Try to delete or rename and go to the download page again. Restart browser prior , so it updates itself ... Thank you for the information. I deleted the macromedia folder, in system 32, then performed the download function. After the download, I find that: I get the same results - the empty box and I scan for the macromedia folder on the computer and do not find that there was anything downloaded. Scanning for "macromed" finds nothing.
I have the same problem and would also like to know how to get beyond this point. I have several machines at the office that suffer from the same dilema.
I have the same problem here today. I've tried everything in the troubleshooting section. I'll check back often for a solution.
The flash player will not install unless you have logged in to access the system with Administrator priviledges - which allow you to install software. In most organisations users are prevented from installing software to secure the network from harmful software and from breach of software licensing issues. Plugins are seen as software as they execute code on the client machine, so therefore you need admin rights to install it.
I do have administrator privileges; my login is at the administrator level. Thank You for the follow up...Other thoughts, would be appreciated.
I just wanted to follow up - As I mentioned above I was having flash installation problems. After searching all over the web, I found that there are quite a few others also experiencing the problem. I found a couple of forums where people running Spyblaster had the same problem if they had the block flash option checked. They found that by un-checking it they were able to download the flash player as they should. As far as I remember, I've never had Spyblaster (I use adaware and spybot) but I decided to download Spyblaster just to see what I could do with the check-box I had read about. I did a google searh for spyblaster, found it and installed it. I found the setting with the block flash tab on it and sure enough, the check-box to block flash was checked. I merely un-checked it went back to the macromedia flash download page and it downloaded as it should. It works now. I uninstalled Spyblaster. Rebooted and the flash still works! Hope this will help! :)
I just tried the SpyBlaster solution and it worked. After downloading and running SpyBlaster sure enough the Flash option was checked--- unchecked it, got out of spyblaster and everything went well from that point on. Thank you very much for the answer to this nagging problem. Don
The spyblaster was the culprit, and when I unchecked the block macromedia flash (duh) it worked. I had no idea spyblaster had a blocker on it. Thanks much for the the assist - very helpful, to the point of solution. adios
My goodness! It worked! I've been trying to figure this problem out for MONTHS! I've spent days on the phone with Tech support from Dell, Microsoft, and Macromedia. None of them were able to help me. Thank you sooo much for posting this solution. I wasn't real optomistic when I was downloading Spyblaster, but it worked!!!!
