flash (macromedia) : How to obtain compression advantages of exporting as v6 from v5?

I know that swfs exported as v6 are usually smaller than swfs exported for v5, but is it possible to get this size benefit if you've begun a FLA as exporting to v5 and then later on start exporting as v6?

I have a series of FLAs that I've bene exporting as v5, but when exported as v6 are actually 1-2k larger than the v5 swfs. Why?

Thanks in advance.

You can't really get anything of flash 6 while exporting for flash 5 as flash 5 simply
won't support . Whatever features you use will make the movie fail to work
properly . Or stop it from working at all . In regard to size , I believe it will be pretty
much depend on the content . FLash MX after all is more rich in features so perhaps the
SWF construction change a bit .

V6 export has an to compress SWF files .. you simply have to turn that on
when exporting as V6.

V6 isn't really inherently any smaller in SWF size than V5 .. its just the
zip-compression that V6 adds as an option for exporting that makes things
smaller.
