Well I certainly hope that that is not true and that you have some basis in
arguing this. Anyway; apart from the fact that it's basic newsgroup
courtesy, even if it's not, crossposting is an invitation to people to waste
their time on questions that probably already have been answered elsewhere.
And as we are all volunteers here, that seems like a not so nice idea. If
advising your students to go elsewhere would mean a significant decrease in
crossposting, then that's fine by me.
My suggestion however would be to ask them simply to not crosspost and
adhere to some very basic and easy to follow rules of conduct. There's a
bunch of very nice people out there eager to help and although I am aware
that I sometimes may not seem te nicest person around here, I still am one
of those eager to help. Don't let your students be the victim of your own
being pissed.
