You'll need to include a link to the animation for ust to see it. :)

can anybody shed any light on how it was produced. Is it video footage?
illustrated... what?

First will need the URL to say anything about how the designer made it.

For version check html source code.
The player version is indicated in the codebase=

urami's right - that's simply a vision and a lot of hard work/hours - all bitmaps converted to symbols and motion tweened and frame-by-frame animation - not to mention one of the oddest websites i have seen - definately interesting to watch.

How do you know how many layers and frames were used...? Or were you guessing?

she probably has a 3rd party tool that'd designed to allow you to explore the contents of a compiled swf file (there are many programs like this).

There is only one short video footage , when the robot thingy coming out of the gate.
Rest is a motion tween animation , literally hand made work , covering 1200 frames and
and 523 layers . 523 layer is crazy :) that's lots of work ....
They imported lots of bitmap images and animate every single one individually on separate
layer.
