flash (macromedia) : Help with text links

actually, it's super easy:

go into your button (where you have the four button states) >> create a new
layer *beneath* the existing layer with the text on it >> on the new layer,
drag a strokeless rectangle around the area that you would like have serve
as the "clickable" mouse area >> voila ... now your mouse will work anywhere
inside the rectangle, not just in the letters. you can alter the state of
the rectangle for differet button states (change color on mouse over, change
color on mouse click, etc) and a nice trick is to turn the transparency of
the rectangle down to 0% ... then you won't see it at all, just your letters
will light up thus making the mouse-able area "invisible".

this is at it's most simple -- you can also create animations to trigger
during mouse states, import entire movie-clips into a mouse state ...
endless possibilities, and certainly easier to make them in flash then in
image ready, fireworks, or another graphic-editing program.

hope that helps!

a letter. How do you make a text link where all the area around the text can
be selected. The problem I'm having is on the up position the text is
white...then I have the text red on the over position. When I test the link
it blinks when I drag across all the letters. It's hard to select the link
because you have to be on one of the letters.

When I create a text button the link only gets selected when the hand hits a letter. How do you make a text link where all the area around the text can be selected. I hope that makes sense.

this would be probably easier if you had a graphics program like fireworks
or photoshop. you could make the states of the buttons there and bring them
into flash for animating

scrap that last comment. talking out of my a**e. you make a text a button.
then when u preview it CTRL+RETURN then the cursor turns into a hand when
the actual letter it self is rolled over. well to couteract this type your
text as you want it then in the properties select the 'selectable' button.
thats next to the render as html button and border round text button.
chances are that it was selected while you were typing in your text. now
when you previuew it you can roll over the space and the letter because the
whole black is a button
