Hello, I am working with an educational version of Flash MX.

I can't figure out what is going on.

I've created a very basic layout with some text based buttons. However what seems to be happening is that my page plays and then converts to HTML. I can't figure it out.

can anyone PLEASE help me figure out what settings I have incorrect?

That is the page if it is of any help.

The transparency in the buttons doesn work (the "button" is at the top of the page after the animation finishes. it says "view day one presentatio") Notice too that the text is completely cut off... as if it is one huge long line of html.

AND, you can view source to read the html.

Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your time in responding.

You could convert your text to a graphic. I believe that a rollover function is disrupted by having text included in a button, as the mouse moves ove the text it loses the 'mouse over' appearance.

Another way around it would be to have the button extend further than the text, maybe including a small button so that the user moves over the button, not the text - then the text would still be displayed as you wish it, ie itallic on mouse over.

Im not quite sure what you mean when you say it converts to html

One other thing you might consider is adding a pre-loader to the page so that folk viewing know that something is happening

Ok,
I think I can be more specific with my problems.

On the page above, you can highlight the text like you could on an HTML page. YOu can click on it with the mouse and "select" it.

What would make flash create text that is selectable instead viewed as a vector-based graphic that is NOT selectable?

THanks for any ideas.

Heya Tasha,

1. However what seems to be happening is that my page plays and then
converts to HTML.

That is not the case. When you export HTML, Flash collects all the text that
appears in your Flash movie and dumps it in a comment tag within the HTML.
This is for search engines that search for keywords. That is what you are
reading when you choose to view source.

2. Button not working

The text in your button is set to "selectable". Turn this option off and be
sure to set a hotspot in the button.

3. Text cut off

The text field is set to "single line". Try setting it to "multiline" and
the text will wrap properly.

I have placed some sample files for you to have a look at. They are
available at http://www.psytoy.com/~leo/tempfiles/index.php?dir=flashhelp .
Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Scrawl
