flash (macromedia) : button nested within button state?

I'd like to know if you can place a button symbol as the down or hit state of a another button. Thanks.

No you can't
You can place multiple buttons in movie clip but not
Button inside a button . There is collision of HIT states
and flash don't know which one to act upon.
