flash (macromedia) : Talking between swf files

I have a need to use Flash Navigation swfs (left and top bars) along with an ASP/VBScript main content page. I took a total flash app and broke out its left side bar nav and top logo with navs and placed them on an asp template in Dreamweaver MX 2004. I am unsure now how to get elements that talked to each other in the original combined swf file (rolling over links in the left nav spawned an information pane in the top logo). Now that these are separate swf files in the ASP file (which I need to do in order to get going on puling in data.....I haven't quite gotten the knack of Flash Data Binding yet, since I am most familar with Classic ASP/VBscript and SQLServer.

Any ideas on combining Flash left side and top/logo with nav swf files with ASP main content ? I had hoped there was a way to have the ASP page underneath show through a single swf that had left side and top logo bar navigation, but have had no luck on that. Any ideas? Resources? Possibilities?
