flash (macromedia): marc;
It's difficult to guess what moght be wrong based on the information
provided, but I suspect the most common reason for such an error is probably
a version difference--trying to open a flash mx file in flash 5 etc. Have
you tried getting help from the seller of the template? They should support
their product.

I recently purchased a flash template to create a company website. when i ordered it i was sent a link to download the template.

after downloading the template the .swf file works fine, and i can see the template. but when i try to open the .fla file, flash opens and then a default message reading "unexpected file format" comes up adn then flash closes automatically.

can someone please help me with this so that i may edit the template! thanks in advance....
