flash (macromedia):
I one time had someone tell me that I should make every symbol a movie because it would generate a smaller file. Is this true?

It seems to me that if I'm not using the symbols for a movie I should keep them as symbols. How does one or the other affect file size with the same image?

So... the same rectangle will be the same size whether it is a graphic or movie clip.

Thanks!

I think they may have meant that you should create just about everything as
a symbol - especially if it is something that will be re-used or animated in
any way, as yes this does help to keep file size down (Flash references the
information about the item from it's library instead of recreating it)

The choice between the types of symbols depends on the purpose - button for
buttons, graphic for a static item, or movie clip for an animated item or if
you need more control over it.
