flash (macromedia): I have build an interactive presentation using Flash MX 2004 ... the final
product is a flash projector that loads in 6 different .swf's that contain
embedded video (.flv's), audio narration, and animation effects ...

One thing I noticed was that despite the CPU being low during the
presentation, memory jumps each time a movieclip fades in ... the movieclips
just contain static bitmapped graphics ... I tried to remove and unload the
movieclip after use, but memory still hovers where it was last at ...

I'm not entirely sure how garbage collection works in flash ... or if it is
even possibly to control on the level of Java ... I know that the delete()
routine will work for recycling variables ... but apparently doesn't work for
mc instances ...

All I want to know is if I should be concerned in the spike in memory or if
this is normal behavior ... where the flash player is just holding on to stuff
until some other application needs memory ... similar to the deal where
director steals all the CPU until another program needs it ...

Any insight, please email me at:

Are you running it from a CD-ROM or harddrive ?

We know there are problems when running it from the CD-ROM.
