New to flash

flash (macromedia): Honestly, it doesn't bother me when people are driven away by what
appears at first blush to be difficult in Flash. It does take work to learn
the application, but it takes work to learn any software of sufficient
complexity. It also takes work to learn how to paint or prepare a good
meal. This isn't McJobMarket, where you press the "make a cool website"
button and expect a cool website in 30 seconds or your next one's free.

Once you've learned the ropes, it's laughably easy to create hyperlinks
in Flash. Of course, if you prefer non-Flash, have at it. JavaScript
provides equally challenging projects. If Flash and HTML were treats from a
cereal box or Cracker Jack, they wouldn't be worth a whole lot -- but design
and programming are difficult, rewarding vocations. I've seen dozens of
co-workers and peers feel justifiably proud after accomplishing something
they've worked for.

LCC_51,

Yes, you can increase and decrease the volume of sound files in Flash.
I think you asked the same question twice here ...

So maybe you mean panning left and right? If so, that's possible too.
You can do all of the above in the timeline or via ActionScript.

For the timeline version: import a sound into your Library, then drag
it to the Stage while in a given keyframe. You'll see little soundwaves
appear in the keyframe on that layer, and if you click into the keyframe,
you'll see volume and panning effects in the Properties panel.

For the ActionScript version, check out the Sound class in the
ActionScript dictionary.

I'm prettey new too flash, i have figured out how to work symbols, use sound
and tweens. I have a few questions however. How do I make fill effects that
contain more than one color? Flash provided a few examples but how do I make my
own? How do I script in a button that takes you to the next scene? All help
will be appreciated.

Hi, I admit that I won?t probably give you the exact answer to your questions,
but for Flash generally goes: Very, very often (actually mostly) it won?t do
what the user wants. I cant understand what there is so big about Flash, as
this program (I have Flash 5) does not even provide a tool to create links.
Which is astonishing, as Dreamweaver (which is Macromedia as well and which I
am satisfied with) has this tool. All the user needs is to mark the word or the
pic, clicks "make link" and thats it. But the big big Flash offers
nothing of that sort. Pretty stupid, isnt it? There are many more examples I
could name. So forget Flash. The websites shall do without animations, too.

Refs, I'm as frustrated as you are when I fisrt touch flash MX... but in truth
this tool is so flexible that it can create a lot of wonderful thing... but the
tools is pretty hard to work with... but once you grasp it, it will be
easier... beside flash, I had played with swishmax... wow.. that is one hell of
a tool to create quick flashy presentation, I did not even go thru the tutorial
and I can make a pretty cool flash banner, and it make it so easy to go to URL
once the banner is clicked... anyway, FLASH MX has it's charm even though it's
hard to learn

Well put. I've busted my butt over the past 7 months learning the MX2004
Suite (particularly Flash, Dreamweaver, and Fireworks) in order to get ahead
in my job (Instructional Design and Development) and now I'm practically
golden in my company because everyone else in my department either thought
it was too hard (they wanted to outsource the e-learning projects) or they
thought they'd easily be able to learn it within a couple of weeks. LOL

Fill that contain move than one color.
Well, you first need to divide into parts, than fill each with its own color.
You could use lines to make section than remove them once colors are filled.

Next Scene.
Place a label name on frame of scene you like to target than from button use
_root.gotoAndStop or _root.gotoAndPlay("label_name_here");

Take note , do not name labels with digits or do not start label names with
underscore _label .
