Can anyone tell me a quick reason why I need this? I love it and want it but I
need a good shnazzy blurb why this is cool (ie quicker 'download' etc)... any
takers? http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/mx/flash/articles/flv_tutorial.html

The FLV format is cross-platform. (Unlike Quicktime and Windows Media. I know
that either can be done on the other, but most people don't.) The Flash player
has really good penetration across both platforms. (Of course most of the video
stuff requires Flash 7 player.) It is nice that you can 'emulate' streaming
without a fancy set up. There was (is?) a problem if your host uses a certain
server set up, but I don't know what it is. You can always download the 30-day
trial and make something fancy to impress your boss! Good luck.
