flash (macromedia):
I have been trying and trying to figure out how to work flash through flash mx
to no avail. I mean I can make basic videos, stick figures moving stuff like
that etc, but when it comes to making a site intro using flash I am lost...I
took the lessons etc and they couldnt quite educate my simple flash mind
enough...

First of all, how the heck do I make a button. All I want to do is make a
button that when you click it an event occurs, I can make the button I can edit
it so that on mouse over or hit or up or down the button changes BUT when it is
actually clicked I can never get the event to load. I'm positive it is just a
mistake on my part but I dont know where I am making the mistake.

If somebody would be so kind as to just simply walk me through how they would
make an easy little button in flash I would be forever thankful! If you dont
have time to do that then maybe can you give me advice on what im doing wrong?
I'm sure a few people have made the same beginner mistakes...

Any help is appreciated,

Justin

Well once you create the button, click on the button once and then type in the
Actions Panel: (IMPORTANT: you have to click on the button first) on(release)
{ // any events that you want to put gotoAndPlay(3); } Does this help? :D

Is there some place in Flash MX where I can just type the code in? I am
struggling so much trying to get this stuff to work part of the problem is
because when I change things under the "Action" tab it always gets all screwed
up, I think I would be much better off just manually typing in codes...I tried
to get it to look like you showed me above but again I couldnt get it just as
you showed me

Err.. I couldn't really get what you mean. You have to put the actionscripts in
the Action panel. What do you mean by it screwed up everytime you put some
code there? I assume it's screwed up because you put in the wrong syntax or
something.

Ok as rediculous as it sounds all I needed to do in my case was just put a stop
code on the first keyframe so that the movie didnt automatically play before
the button was pressed...oy thanks for all the help

You might try buying some good books to augment the tutorials and the help
files.

For MX, I bought "Flash MX" by Derek Franklin - it's 900 pages long! Has a
lot of "theory" as well as step-by-step instructions. Even a CD with a lot of
samples.

It helped me a lot.
