Just for clarity, what do you mean by "the file in a media player"? Are
you talking about Window Media Player?

To publish a basic Flash movie, the only files necessary on the server
are the SWF and HTML, unless you're loading external media. The FLA is your
source and is only viewable to someone who has the Flash IDE (the authoring
environment).

That's very likely. Did you save your video clip as an FLV (Flash
Video) file? If so, then that file would have to go on the server too, or
in a place accessible to the SWF.

You can import the video directly (from AVI, MPG, etc.) and it will
become part of the final SWF. The SWF will, of course, be larger that way.
You would still need to provide your IT guy the SWF and the HTML file that
displays it.
