Thank you also.
If you were consolidating, I'd suggest combining macromedia.flash &
macromedia.flash.actionscript forums again. Although it was a great idea in
theory to separate them, all that ends up happening is that the same sort of
questions get spread between the two groups .. just as many AS questions in
the non-AS thread, and non-AS questions in the AS thread. If there was a
moderator who could move threads between forums and keep things organsied,
that would be great. but without that, it just means we have to look in two
different forums instead of one.
Another issue that really needs addressing is for the web site. The forum
links related to Flash are all there nicely on one page, BUT the forum link
for FLash Player is hidden away in the right margin. That means people with
problems with FLash player start posting in the genreal Flash forum instead,
where they would be better served in the Flash Player forum.
Try this. Imagine you have some Flash Player problem. From the main
macroemdia home page you follow the link to the forums (
http://www.macromedia.com/support/forums/?promoid=home_short_forum_082503 )
There in the main part of the page under the heading "Product Forums" you
find "Macromedia Flash". It would seem logical that that would cover Flash
Player, so you click there. Then you get to the "Flash Support Forums" page
(
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/index.cfm?forumid=15 )
where there is a list of the particular forums .. and look, there is no
forum for Flash Player !!! So you pick the general forum because nothing
else seem to cover it.
What the user very easily missed in that example, is that the Flash Player
isn't listed as a product in the main page, instead its 'hidden' away on the
right hand margin menu in that opening forum page .. and once you get past
the opening page and into the Flash Support Forums, there is no link to it
at all. That explains why there are posts about Flash Player in the flash
forum. JD has several times asked why people are posting these in the wrong
forum .. nad the problem really lies with the way you web pages are laid
out.
Anyway .. its something worth looking at to help your customers find the
help they need.
