In the publish settings, there is an option for html alignment: default, which
is supposed to center the swf in the html. but this does not seem to work for
me. it constantly justifies the swf to the left. what am i doing wrong

It isn't you. This has never worked for me either. (Since Flash 4!) I'm
guessing that this does something else and we just think that is what it is
supposed to do. As far as I can tell it does nothing--never has, never will

But if some of you out there know, please do share. It has always annoyed me
that I have to go into the html later and make the changes by hand

The default alignment for html publish aligns the swf file to left, you can use
a extension from macromedia flash exchange in "browsers" cathegory, the
extension is called "Center in browser" and it will add a new template mode in
html template called "Center in browser" and then the swf file will be aligned
in center of html page and the margins are removed

Heres what I do to align my movie in Flash

-Go to File | Publish Settings. The Publish Settings window will appear. From
the Publish Settings window, select the HTML tab
-Click the Dimensions drop-down menu. Select Percent from the selections
listed. The width and height fields will display the percent caption.
-Enter a percent value for the Width and the Height. Because you want the
animation to be full screen, enter a value of 100 for both the Width and Height
fields.

The percent will be 100 x 10

-Press the OK button to close the Publish Settings window or press the Publish
button to publish your SWF file along with other files such as the HTML file.
When you preview the page you just published, you will see the animation set to
100% of the width and height of your browser.
-Then, open up your html file in notepad or any html editor and delete the
body tag and replace with the following: [b]<body topmargin="0"
leftmargin="0">[/b

error message that i need flash 5 or later to install. i do have flash 5 and
flash 2004 on my computer so i'm not sure what to do. is there a specific
directory from which to install the extension

I think it sais you need flash 5 or later, brobably this is because you have to
reinstall flash if it still doesn`t work you neeed a newer extension manager
version.
This extension i was talking about worked on my flashMX version.
