Well, I am now working with Flash 7 (MX 2004).
My problem is, my compression settings don't seem to be working. Whether I
set the JPG compression to 0 or 100, nothing changes, everything looks the
same, and the file size stays the same. Totally simple thing that always
worked before. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there an update I need?
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't use MX 2004 but same happens in MX .
The global setting does not seem have much impact on images.
Unless you reduce dramatically to zero or 20 , than it will become noticeable.
Mostly library compression setting has better results.
