hi. I was sent a .fla file with tons of bitmaps that i need to edit and
reexport the .swf. it would help me greatly if i could use the "edit with..."
feature and use either fireworks or photoshop. unfortunately, whenever i try
to edit an image from the library, i get a message that:

"The file C:\Documents and
settings\deep.LOC\Desktop\5\fggd\012_00000_00002_00022.JPG does not exist,
unable to launch external editor."

Is it because i do not have these image files saved locally on my machine? i
am frustrated and at a lost. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everybody!

As you can see Flash does not want anything to do with editing the bitmaps
contained in the FLA, it wants to go back to the original files that were
imported into Flash. This Edit With feature has never helped me, right now mine
is set to use PhotoEditor and darned if I know how to switch it to something
else. And anyway I would commonly want to go back to the source PSD that
created the image in the first place.

If I had the same task I would want to obtain from the customer or regenerate
from the FLA all of the images as separate files on my hard disk, fix them, and
re-import in the Bitmap Properties window. Painful if there is a lot of them
but you already know that.

I too am trying to edit a background image, imported from RoboDemo, and I get
the ".. the file x.png does not exist, unable to launch external editor."

how can I edit my images with an external editor ? is there a workaround to
this error?

thanks, the Schworce

also, I tried the following steps from Flash help, to try to edit in Photoshop:

"To edit a bitmap with another image-editing application:
In the Library panel, right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh) the
bitmap's icon.
In the bitmap's context menu, select Edit With.
Select an image-editing application to open the bitmap file, and click OK.
Perform the desired modifications to the file in the image-editing
application.
Save the file in the image-editing application.
The file is automatically updated in Flash.

Return to Flash to continue editing the document. "

I get the error as before, that it "cannot find" the image file. I cannot
edit the source image and re-import since it comes from a locked up RoboDemo
file.. any ideas?
