Can anyone explain how to either create within Flash, or create within
Freehand/Illustrator (& import into Flash) a glow effect? Thus far, importing
into Flash rarely works from Illustrator and the tools in Freehand are not
clear to me. Either way, any sort of transparency is filled in upon import.

I've looked all over the place and can't seem to find any step by step
examples that talk about real options in Flash.
What I want to do is create a glowing "halo" effect around a circle.

Fireworks is perfect for this type of thing. You can customize your glowing
effect, color, different sizes, fade, intensity, etc. Then you can import
these into Flash as PNG files and they keep their transparency.

Good luck.

If you really wanted to, you could just make slightly different transparent
circles and layer them on top of each other in Flash for a similar effect, but
much more time consuming and not as smooth and realistic.
