flash (macromedia) : unexpected file format on v.5

this is fairly aggrivating...I work on a lot of stuff in Flash at school.
There, they have MX 2004, but at home (since I don't have the money) I use v.5.
I came home today and had my .fla file on a cd to work on because I got behind
and I clicked on the file after I transferred everything to my hard drive and I
received an error stateing "Unexpected File Format". Are there any downloads
out there that would allow me to use these same .fla's between school and home?
It would also be helpful to know if MX 2004 is truly backwards compatable.
Thanks for the help.

Flash never was backward compatible , throughout flash 2 , 3, 4 and 5 .
For the first time flash MX offer save to 5 and MX 2004 save to MX but that's about it .
However , take note that saving it back to MX or 5 (from MX) does not mean the file will work.
The player simply is not that dvanced and won't understand many actions used in the new application.
You must be fairly familiar with the available syntax in flash 5 to limit yourself to
actions only available in that version. Than you will be successful in saving backward .
But than again , only to MX from MX 2004 and only to 5 from MX .

It does not matter in your case , the file header to not match the version regardless what it
contains. There just isn't backward compatibility for versions you need.
