flash (macromedia) : Newbie question - embedded video vs. movie clip

Pretty bonehead simple question for those of you who've been working with Flash
for a while. I'm just getting started. I've been going thru the tutorials,
reading the books, blah, blah, blah, and I can't find what I'm looking for. A
simple answer to a fairly simple question...

What's the difference between "embedded video" and a "movie clip?"

Here's my guess (just from seeing some Flash sites online): Embedded video
just plays as part of the stage; doesn't require you to hit "play" on the
interface. Whereas a movie clip is something the web surfer can choose to play
if he wants by hitting the "play" button or clicking on a link.

Is that it?

Hi,

[quoted text, click to view]

Movie clip is a very old word that indicates a timeline that is encapsulated
into a symbol in the flash libray. This concept exists since Flash 3 I think
(or 2?). So a movie clip is just a native Flash thing, doesn't have s.th. to
do with video.
Now since Flash 6 (MX) the Flash player can decode and play video data, so
that is what "video" means.

bye,
Frank
