Did you set the sound to 'stream'? That should fix the problem.

I'm using Flash MX 2004.

I'm in the process of creating an animation, but I'm having troubles with
the sound effects. I add the sound to a sound layer at the keyframe where I
want to sound to play, but when I export the movie the sound plays two or
three seconds earlier than it should.

I have no idea what the problem could be. I've had no troubles doing this
kind of thing in the past, and I haven't done it any differently this time.

Any idea what could be wrong?

Yes, it was already set to stream.
