nlc02;
Macromedia customer support and/or the upgrade information provided on
the MM website would offer a more definitive reply than other users, but
that said, you generally need a serial number from your accepted earlier
version (or with a competitive upgrade--a competing product) in order to
install an upgrade copy.

no - and for good reason - if you or anybody could simply download the free
trial and then just pay for an upgrade - nobody would ever need to buy the full
program - in essence there wouldnt be a "full" program price if what you ask
were true. - nice try though ;)
you have to pay for a full version of any software to be fully licensed and
subsequentially eligible for an "upgrade".

it's soooooooo expensive, hell MS charges less for their latest OS's.

i'm poor- i didn't dl the flash mx- came with my flash mx book- not that that
matters.... maybe i can find just plain old flash mx in a store and it will be
cheaper.....

are you a student? if so you may be eligible for the educational version which
is still a full version but cheaper.
then there's always ebay. probably could find MX or even Flash 5 for pretty
cheap - fond a legit copy with a serial number and you can then pay for an
upgrade.

I get my from local distributors and they require previous license
otherwise won't sale the upgrade , don't know with online .
Plus you need serial number in order to upgrade and 30 days demo does not come with one.
