Is there any way to add outlines to a font in flash- you can't take them from
illustrator as a jpeg or a gif- they look like_hit???

what's a girl to do - trace all the letters? (I cannot use another font as it
is title treatment for movie)

You can't apply outlines w/o breaking the fonts.
You could however use fonts that are build as outlines , for instance
Helvetica NeueLT Std Bold Outline
Swiss 721 Black Outline BT
Swiss 721 Bold Outline BT
and there is many more .....
