Have you played with the "Behaviors" at all? Not a replacement, but
perhaps a temporary workaround?

Macromedia,

Are there any plans to provide a patch to MX 2004 that brings back "Normal"
Actionscript mode? I've been expecting this for a while, especially given the
number of users complaining about its absence. You'll make your customers
really really happy....

See if you can get on the beta list for the next update to MX 2004 .. then
you can find out for yourself. But you won't be able to tell anyone :)
