flash (macromedia) : Video not always displaying from progressive flv from CD?

I'm working on a project that has about 20 flv files that are pulled
from a directory and displayed within a swf. Sometimes,I click the
button and a flv plays perfectly. Other times I can hear the audio track
of the flv then get a delay (sometimes long) before the video appears.
And, other times the audio plays fine and the video never appears.

The strange thing is, the individual video files doesn't always behave
the same. For instance, sometimes when I click on "video 1" it plays
fine. ...then I click on "video 12", etc and it won't display. The next
time "video 12" will play perfectly and "video 1" won't display. It
doesn't seem to make much sense.

All of the flv's were created the same way- via Quicktime pro and the
FLA is built in MX 2004 pro using forms. ...all of this in a very
similar manner to the wedding and sports templates that macromedia has
for downloadable tutorials. However, I'm using the media components that
macromedia provides instead of using custom controls.

This will eventually end up on a cd, but right now I'm just testing from
the projectos and swf files on my local drive. I've tested it on several
different computers (mac and windows) and it misbehaves on both. I'm not
sure how to solve this problem, since it seems to behave quite

Hi Kirk,

Wish I knew the answer.
But I'm having a similar problems too with several flvs on my local drive.

Each of my 19 flv files play fine if only 3 or 4 of them are referenced from
a swf.
But when more than 10 are set to play in sequence in one swf,
the frame rate of the clip becomes erratic and the audio is sometimes lost.

The flvs range in file size from 700kb to 1.8mb, play between 10 and 30
seconds at 24fps.
Standard media components are used within single frame slides of the screen
based presentation.
Cue points are used to advance to the next slide containing the media
component for the next video clip.

I'm wondering if it is memory related and if there is an equivalent to
unloading each previous flv to reduce the load?

This system is win2000 with flashmx2004 pro.
But will have to work online without streaming.

All suggestions welcome,

Conor

Yes, this is because you are running the flash file from the CD-ROM. There
are memory issues when running projector file from a CD-ROM which Macromedia
have acknowledged see technotes on website for further info.

The machine doesn't have enough memory to play it from the CD-ROM itself.

Here is a suggestion.

Use the hard disk memory, this can be achieved by using one of products
called Jugglor.

http://www.jugglor.com

It will compress the main PC projector file in a new Juggled Projector file.
When the user executes this file it will uncompress itself to the
windows/temp directory hence the hard drive. Now you will get a better and
smoother playback. You can keep the FLV on the CD-ROM and use the LOADMOVIE
command along with the LOCAL% to load these files. You can also pack the
FLV's into the Juggled file using the Additional File section.

Jugglor Help -> Advanced Techniques -> Using the LOCAL%

it has worked for many of our clients.

Download a FREE 30 day trail and try if it works for you.
