flash (macromedia) : how to add symbol instance icon?

I have a math library "mathlib" which contains a few math formular with
no graphics. Because the library has no graphics, it shows nothing when
I drag an instance of the library symbol. I have to add the instance
name right upon the drag, otherwise I will not be able to get a handle
of it because there is no way to know where it is dropped. Is there a
way to add an icon image to the instance of a non graphic library so
that it shows where it is?

What you could do is add an extra layer to that symbol; place an icon or
text in it. Then, before publishing set all these layers to guide; that way
they won't export to the final swf file, but at authoring time you have some
reference point.

I tried your suggestionn but still can't see the icon when dragging instances.
Here's what I had and what I did:

In "mathlib.fla" file, there was a library "mathlib" in the library panel. I
imported an icon image "icon.png" into a guide layer of mathlib.fla and
regenerated "mathlib" library symbol. When I drag the new "mathlib" symbol,
there is still no icon.

what did I miss? Thanks.
