Check this manual, it was very helpful for me. ( I bought it in Mexico because
i live here, but the original edition is in English)
FLASH ACTIONSCRIPT FOR DESIGNERS: Drag, Slide Fade
The Author is Brendan Dawes

This book is for FLASH MX but it explains very well how to apply ActionScript.

I would recommend any book published by "Friends of Ed".

I have used about 12 of thier books, and have found them to be most
valuable. Thier standard series of books based on experience level
starts out with "Foundation Flash" then "Foundation Actionscript" then
"Studio", and last but not least for the most advanced "New Masters of
Flash"
