flash (macromedia):
Running into a catch-22 with this. When I try to install I get the error
message that Macromedia Flash MX 2004 must be intalled in order to install the
update. When I try to install with Macromedia Flash MX 2004 running (so that
the updater will see it) I'm told I have to shut down the program and re-run
the updater. Yes, I did install Macromedia Flash MX 2004 in the default
directory.

No phatkow - if the program is not running I get an error message that I have
to have the program installed on my computer before I can install the update;
if the program is running I get the error message that I have to shut down the
program and then start over trying to install the update...hence my "catch-22

And, again, incase you did not read...i did install MX 2004 in the default
directory

what you have yet to mention is what OS you are using - I may not be able to help since i cant duplicate the issue - but knowing the Operating System you are on is a start.

Just FYI, I ended up uninstalling/reinstalling Flash. This is what
someone at MM advised me to do:

1) Clean the product license off the machine. Do this by downloading
our license cleaner application at: http://www.macromedia.com/go/cleaner
When you launch the application select both Studio product options from
the list and click ok - this will remove the licenses and you will see a
confirmation message.

2) Re-install Flash software which I'm assuming will be 7.0. Before
activating, go ahead and run the 7.2 updater. This should update
successfully.

3) Run the Flash Product Activation hot fix we issued last - you can
find this at:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/service/ts/documents/win_fl72_reactivation_hf.htm.
This will avoid activation problems that could be experienced in Flash
7.2.

4) Activate Flash Pro at this point - you should be able to complete
this successfully.

5) If Flash activated fine, now go to one of the other Studio applications.

(step 5 was because uninstalling/reinstalling made other studio apps
"expire"... caused by step 1 I think)
