flash (macromedia) : Bitmaps disappear on Scene 2

I added a second scene to a project and started placing bitmaps. While I am
editing, the bitmaps don't show up correctly in the new scene; the only thing
that shows up is an outline. I can't see the bitmap on the stage. On the first
scene, bitmaps show up fine, but when I switch scenes, any new bitmaps I place
immediately turn to an outline only. I tried moving them around, deleting and
replacing them, updating them...nothing is working.

This problem is only during editing. When I preview or publish, all the
bitmaps show up fine in all scenes. However, it is a pain to not be able to see
them during editing. I can not find any setting relating to this, nor can I
understand the possible benefit. Any ideas on how to make Flash MX show bitmaps
on all scenes during editing?

go to scene2. Now to the left of the timeline, you can see the layers. next to
each of the layers there are eyes, locks, and squares. If you can see the eye
next to the layer that means the layer is invisible during editing. Click the
eye next to the layer to make it visible during editing. If you can see the
lock, that means you cannot edit the layer. Click the lock next to the layer to
unlock the layer. And finally, if you see a box with no fill, that means you
will only see outlines. Click the box, to be able to see more than just the
outlines. And now that empty box will have a fill.
