flash (macromedia) : Accessibility in MX2004, nested swfs

Hopefully someone here can help!

I am working with a complex course built entirely in flash, but housed in a
browser. My goal is to make this course accessible. The courseware uses XML to
control the navigation, and loads external swfs for each content page as the
user moves through the course. Additionally, almost all text is loaded
dynamically from external HTML files.

I have managed to get JAWS to recognize the flash movie, but I'm encountering
some anomolies:

- I made everything inaccessible except the movie clip that holds the loaded
swfs, and the text fields inside the swf.
- however, the reader just sits there until I tab through the navigation
buttons (these were made inaccessible!!)
- once I completely tab through those, it recognizes the content and reads it

I have tried:
- pulling focus into the content page using an input text box and setting
focus to it
- enabling focus on the content page movieclip, and then setting focus to it
- numerous random attempts with modifying the tab index order... so far no
combination is working

Anyone have any ideas? Your help is much appreciated!
Thanks
Jen

Hello all,
Problem solved!
Turns out the key was our inexperience with the screen readers themselves. Our
code and design are all correct, we were just not using the screen reader
correctly to navigate through the page.

Thanks everyone!
