hi, i couldn't find any previous postings about this although i'm sure it's
been mentioned before.... but what're best practices for resolution of the
movie and frame rate?

As for frame rate/second, usually between 15 and 30. I keep mine set at 18 fps. As for movie resolution, check out these links:

Don;t know if MX2004 sorts this out, but for framerates, i would recommend
something ending in a 1 - ie 11, 21, 31. There is a problem with Macs in
that if you set your framerate as 18, it will only play at 11, as 24 it will
play as 21 etc.
