flash (macromedia) : can't find in archives, stop a movie

I am new to flash (obviously) and want to stop a movie. I selected a frame on
each layer independently, then opened the Actions panel and clicked on
actions>movie control>stop (it said "stop movie" in the right hand" pane).
Then, when I tested the movie in a browser it kept looping even though "loop
playback" was not turned on in the control menu. I typed "stop, movie" in your
archives and didn't seem to come up with anything that was relative.

Can someone help, please.

not quite sure what you are refering to but if you want to stop a movie at a
given frame then:-
create a new layer (for your actionScript) if you want the movie to stop on
frame 4 (for instance) in the actions layer(that you created) click on the
frame (nos 4) press F6 (to insert a keyframe). then open up the actions panel
and type in
stop();
this will stop your movie on frame 6
hope this helps
