flash (macromedia) : newbie dumb question

Yep, it will take a long time to load for dial-up visitors! I'd suggest you
get it down to 10% of what it is now.

You can adjust the publish settings to help. Also, make sure that all your
JPGs were imported at the same size you are using them (so you're not
resizing them in Flash) and compress them before importing. This will help
get your file size as small as possible, while keeping your quality as high
as possible.

Best,
Rob

OK- I produced an opening flash movie with lots of pix. The SWF is 2.8mb. The
main file is 20 megs. I tested it from my web server, and it runs OK. I tried
again with the DSL switched off, and it still runs OK. My question is (sorry)
Does this mean that I have inflicted a 2.8 mb download on my potential customer
(who may have a dial up system) and if so, will it take forever to download the
SWF file?

Yes and yes. When you viewed forst via DSL the swf would most probably have
been cached by your browser, so when you check via dialup it will use the
cached version. Empty your browser's cache, and check it again via dialup -
you will see that it takes unacceptably long to load (imho:)
