flash (macromedia): I'd like to create (or use someone else's creation of) a .swf that clients can use to type text into which can then generate a plain text document to put on their server.

any ideas?

Flash can't do it, you need middle ware and server side.
Flash just does not have ability ot create any content in real time,
it can however pass the variable to middle ware which send it to server and do
the job you need.
