flash (macromedia) : Re: How Do I Morph Text in MX04

sorry to butt in - i just have never heard of applying a motion tween and then changing it to Shape
- why not avoid the right click and selecting motion tween and just go straght to the PI and select
Shape tween?

Also - i know you know this but want to clarify that you need to have text 1 in a keyframe and the
other text in another keyframe on same layer - not just both text fields on 1 layer. they must be in
their own keyframes.

I also break apart the text first - that way you dont get the broken tween line - but it doesnt
really matter.

also - morphing text may not look exactly like what you are expecting - it's not a true "morph"
because many latters have negative spaces and flash has a hard time calculating where it point
should go from 1 keyframe to the next - you'll notice very crude effect when the number of points is
different between keyframes - all the shape hints in the world may not help you get the "morph" the
way you want it.

just my $.02

You mean really morph (change shape), not just fade out and in, right?
To do that, you need to
a) put your 2 text fields on the same timeline, but on different keyframes,
let's say 20 frames apart, and of course into the same position on stage.
b) right-click on the timeline between the two keyframes and select "Create
Motion Tween", and in the property inspector select "Shape" instead of
"Motion".
The frames in the timeline should now be green and show a broken line, the
first word has disappeared from the stage.
c) Click on the first keyframe. You should see your first word again. Select
it and "Break apart (Ctrl-b)" twice. This should change it from text to letters
to shape. Attention, you won't be able to edit your text anymore after that.
d) Do the same with the second text on the second keyframe. Voila!
Move the playhead between the frames and you should see morphing.
However, dependent on your texts you might need shape hints. (See help file:
Using shape hints)
Hope that helps
