flash (macromedia) : Streaming Video Server

I need somewhere to host about 20 five to 10 minute videos - a host with the
appropriate streaming Flash software. Everything I'm finding requires
requesting a quote. I figure if I have to request a quote for hosting it's
out of my ballpark!

They need to be reliable. I'm just trying to find out how much it's going
to cost me at this point.

Thanks,
Mickey

If you use the FLV format and the 7.x player then you wont need any special
streaming software on the server. There is some problem with a certain
Microsoft server set up if they haven't added the FLV to the recognized MIME
types. Do a search here in the forums. As for the quote, if I were to give you
advice I would also have to know the size of the files and how many times you
expected them to be download in a month. For example with my current host I get
400 MB of disk space and 8GB of transfer per month for $9.95. If you need to
use remoting or whatever that is called then you might want to ask in that
forum.

So with the FLV format the movie will automatically stream and the user
won't have to download the entire thing before it plays if they a 7.x
player? Am I understanding you right?

What's remoting???

Thanks,
Mickey

Yes. The FLV and the 7 player don't really stream. It is actually a progressive
download which appears to the user as streaming. As I mentioned there have been
problems, but they seem to be fairly rare. I have no idea what remoting is. And
actually I think I should have said 'communication server.' Which is another
thing that I don't know what it is. But both of them have forums here. I think
the communication server is how you do actual real streaming and many other
fancy things. (Especially before 7!)
