Are the backgrounds semi-transparent or opaque after import to flash?
Fwiw you can import native fireworks pngs into flash--no need to export if
the areas are already transparent in fw.

I recently created a site using fireworks to generate all the graphics and txt,
and importing the .png 32's i exported to import to flash. when i viewed the
site online using an old version of IE, i noticed boxes (the size of the
canvas) around all my txt and images. Any advice on guidlines for exporting
images from one program, especially fireworks, specifically for using in flash
mx? http://www.o-pd.com/temp.htm

which does it need to be, semi transparent or opaque? or would you recommend i
just copy from fireworks and paste in flash? what format should a photo be in
to look its best in flash, especially coming from fireworks?

Troubleshooting requires details--I asked how the areas appear in
your movie after import (whether opaque or semi-transparent) because there
are several possibilities as to what may be happening...
The proper image format depends in part on the type of image being
imported. For imagery with lots of colors and alpha transparency, png is the
only format flash supports natively, For full color images where
transparency is not required, optimized jpeg import is another option, and
for images with few colors and single color transparency--gif can be
best. -Tom Unger

well what i had done in the past is copied a section of the site i had created
in flash, say a paragraph of txt, and pasted it in a new canvas in fireworks,
then exported, with a transparent background, then imported to flash. what i
got was little boxes around the txt and images WHEN I ALPHA'd to 0. so when i
was trying to hide these with a 0 alpha, the borders were still showing around
the elements i had exported from fireworks then imported to flash. now what i
am doing is just copying something from firworks and pasting it directly into
flash, but the box problem is still occuring.

Assuming that you have converted the imported png image into a symbol in
order to alter the alpha, and you are seeing a semi-transparent "box" when
altering the symbols alpha--you may be experiencing "ghosting" which can
occur when the display is set to 16 bit depth. If this is the case changing
your display color depth to 24-32 bit should cause the "ghosting" to
disappear. -Tom Unger
